SMARTICS-CL, Japan'a first low price IC cash card for financial institutions
The development of "SMARTICS-CL",Japan's first low price IC cash card for financial institutions
Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has developed a low price IC cash card called "SMARTICS-CL".
The functions of SMARTICS-CL are limited simply to "cash" and "biometric authentication" and the memory capacity of the IC chip has been reduced from the usual 32 kilobytes to around 10 kilobytes meaning a cost reduction of around 15% compared with widely available IC cash cards with credit functions. This will be the first time that a low price IC cash card has appeared in the Japanese market.
Sales will be launched from June 8, 2009 targeting banks throughout the country including the major banks, local banks and credit unions.
The features of the cards
・Contact IC card
・Japanese Bankers Association compliant IC cash function included
・Palm vein biometric authentication function included
・By combining with a contactless IC module and antenna, it is possible to use the card as a 2 chip hybrid card, for example as a cash card with an electronic money function.
Toppan Printing will further enhance its lineup of "SMARTICS" IC cards and provide products that meet customer needs.
