Next-generation network digital signage terminal
Easy updating and real-time transmission of large volume, high-definition content possible
Toppan Printing Co., Ltd.of Tokyo, Japan, has developed a next-generation network digital signage terminal. With interactive functions, this terminal uses a broadband wireless network to enable the dissemination of large volume, high-definition content in real time. Starting in October 2009, Toppan Printing will launch sales and installation of the terminals, as well as content distribution services for manufacturers, distributors and other businesses.
Using the "UQ WiMAX" high speed wireless internet from UQ Communications Inc., large volume content such as video including commercials and high-definition images can be distributed in real time. With a content management server, customers' distribution schedules can be centrally managed and displayed information can be changed automatically from a distant location. Information about sales and specials that are established with short notice or last for a limited time can quickly be disseminated to various locations. Links with web sites and with other displays connected to the network are possible and updates can be displayed immediately.
Interactive functions are included which will help improve customer satisfaction and promote return shoppers. Connecting a FeliCa (*1) reader/writer to the terminal enables consumers to collect points or receive coupons by using a mobile phone with non-contact electronic money functions. The terminal uses touch screen technology. Enhance product appeal with a system that enables consumers to display recipes and have i a shopping list sent to a mobile phone, or receive more detailed information by combining with a barcode reader and simply reading the product barcode.
