With Toppan's Global Split Production, publishers can place one book order and quickly receive a portion of the order on a domestic production schedule with pricing that reflects the benefits of off-shore book print production. Toppan splits the production order with the quick turnaround portion of the order printed domestically and the balance of the order printed in Asia arriving 3-4 weeks later.
With the introduction of complete case-binding capabilities in Toppan's Somerset, NJ facility, Global Split Production is now a reality. In January, 2006 Toppan completed the installation of a 36 station gathering machine, two Astor 2000 sewing machines and a Kolbus BF-40 casemaking in line. With this new capability, Toppan can provide complete book manufacturing services: prepress, printing and binding in a strategically located domestic plant.
With Toppan's solution, inventory needs are met and pricing is averaged to give publishers the benefit of lower-cost Asian manufacturing. Quick reprints or rush first printings are possible, in quantities calibrated to the latest sales projections providing publishers with the ability to meet demanding production schedules while maintaining attractive profit margins.
